Hydrogen Strategy for a Road Infrastructure Company
Hydrogen is a key enabler of the sustainable energy transformation, with powerful potential to decarbonize industries and drive clean mobility. At accilium, we help organizations position themselves along the hydrogen E2E value chain – from production to consumption – unlocking value in this emerging market.
The Challenge
Hydrogen plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of mobility, yet determining its strategic importance within a long-term business framework remains a challenging task. Compared to alternatives like electric vehicles and e-fuels, the complexity of hydrogen’s potential is evident. A key hurdle lies in the uncertainty surrounding its feasibility and cost-efficiency across various vehicle classes, making it a contentious choice for businesses planning their next steps.
Adding to the complexity is the highly dynamic ecosystem in which hydrogen operates. Constantly evolving regulatory demands, rapid technological advancements, and the need for extensive infrastructure development create an intricate environment that businesses must navigate. Moreover, questions about the sustainability and profitability of business models along the hydrogen value chain further amplify the challenges.
What we achieved
We delivered detailed forecasts for powertrain adoption across three different vehicle classes, providing a data-driven foundation for strategic decision-making. As part of our analysis, we thoroughly examined European regulations, subsidies, and other critical factors influencing the hydrogen value chain.
In addition, we identified and quantified the clients’ competitive advantages within the hydrogen value chain. This enabled us to provide a clear and actionable roadmap for leveraging these advantages effectively. To further support their strategic objectives, we developed next steps and pilot project ideas designed to facilitate a successful entry into the hydrogen economy.
